The Inspiration/"Raison d'etre"
This piece came up as an idea of a gift for my Hubby a few years ago: I wanted to create a masculine bracelet symbolizing his Gemini personality and the concept of two : twin personality while also celebrating the two of us after more than 20 years of union. Natural materials would be used in conjunction with precious ones to echo two fundamental opposite aspects of his character as well: rough and sharp whilst also complex and sophisticated.
That’s after we spent some time in Tahiti that the central component of white and black mother of pearl came up: we found a gorgeous shell on an heavenly white sand beach and decided that it would be the perfect centerpiece for the "dark side" of the symbol: the yin and yang would have to be geometric / angular -as my Hubby's persdonality - as opposed to the traditional circle, framed on each side by an emerald cut diamond accent, all of them set ahainst a dark ebony wood insert sandwiched in yellow gold to provide contrast…
The key fabrication challenge came from the fact that the curved ebony plate had to be meticulously hand carved and receive calibrated gold bezels before beeing brought to a high smooth and shiny finish by natural, painstaking buffering. For funtion, the men’s bracelet had to be easy to wear for my klutzy husband while providing a protectove shell for its delicate and precious components.
In the end, the 50 g of 14k yellow gold features a central rectangular inlay of back and white mother of pearl ( Yin & Yang) framed on each side by 2 emerald cut diamonds (1 carat each, VVS quality) : a simple organic - but also very civilized - piece of masculine jewelry celebrating the concept of 2 opposite faces of my partner’s personality... as well as our reciprocal and organic love for each other.
