The Inspiration/"Raison d'etre"
This piece is both a MESSAGE and a LABOR of LOVE:
The inspiration is an hommage and came from my late biological Mother Judith: she was the epitome of a modern and fabulous women of the 70's who lived a fast life through both brilliant galaxies and dark times but always left a strong impression among other stars or simple people who crossed her path. As a son whom she had not raised, I had , after decades, made peace after many decades over our complicated relationship. Sadly, she passed away before I had the chance of saying good-bye and tell her that we were ok, thus leaving the unsettled account of our story open for eternity…Regardless of our difficult relationship, I like to think that, as this ring, her soul is right out there shining and passing through other stars and nebulaes in some distant and mysterious world…
The creative process
To bring this hommage to life, I had the opportunity to work with @robertpellicciadesigns, in-house Creative Director of the respected house of @jrdunnjewelers in South Florida: from an initial 3D design that I had drawn and hand-carved as a wax model, Robert and I worked for months to materialze the concept through a complex CAD design and artistic collaboration, under the kind patronage of J.R.Dunn’s Founder & Owner Ann Marie Dunn.
Not surprisingly, the result is even beyond my initial vision and expectations: it translates the magic of a celestial object similar to a Comet flying across a night sky after wrapping around a stunning dark blue Tahitian pearl that I had personally spotted and purchased at the Hongqiao Pearl market in Beijing a few years ago.
All parts eventually came together in a full circle...of life !
